Peter L. Miller

Peter L. Miller, age 64, of Brooksville, ME, formerly of Marion, MA, died Friday, November 5, 2021 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, after a brief illness.

Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Roy W. Miller and Shirley (Hartley) Miller. Peter grew up in Marion and graduated from Tabor Academy and attended Connecticut College and Boston University.

After his father’s death, Peter ran the family business, Standard Fastenings, in Fairhaven, before the company was sold. He then founded and operated Miller Marine Construction, building and repairing many docks and piers along the Southcoast. He later transitioned the business into home construction and remodeling.

Having grown up near the shores of Sippican Harbor, Peter was an avid boater, enjoying all types of boating. One of his fondest memories was joining the crew of the 82-foot schooner “Dorothy G”, as a young teenager, when his father was asked to sail it across the Atlantic, to Monaco.

Peter moved to the coast of Maine several years ago, where he continued his enjoyment of the water, exploring the various bays and harbors of Down East Maine.

Survivors include his brothers; Chris of South Dartmouth and Lincoln and his wife, Patricia, of Marion, along with his niece, Elizabeth Schroder and her husband Simon of Mattapoisett and his nephews, Matthew and Andrew Miller, both of Marion.

He was the longtime companion and best friend of the late Barbara Ann (Bambi) Markel. The family would like to acknowledge their appreciation to Barbara’s mother, Janet Markel and her late husband, Barry Lhormer, her sister Diana and her husband Bryan Fishback, along with their children Max and Ana.

The family would also like to acknowledge his friends, Margaret Smith and Phil and Cindy Friend, for their care and compassion.

            Funeral arrangements will be private.
