Augustine L. “Gus” Medeiros, Jr.

Augustine L. “Gus” Medeiros, Jr., age 72, of Westport, passed away after a brief illness, on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. Born in New Bedford, son of the late Augustine L. Medeiros and the late Helen (Souza) Medeiros, he was a lifelong resident of Westport. He had worked for many years as an auto mechanic, retiring from A & A Auto of Fairhaven.

            Father of the late Leslie Medeiros formerly of Swansea, he is survived by: his wife, Mary Sue (Tharp) Medeiros of Westport; his sons, Brian Medeiros (wife Ann Marie) of Fall River, Darren Medeiros (fiancée Malinda Moniz) of Dartmouth; step-children, Stephanie Perry (companion Dave Oliveira) of Fall River and John Perry, Jr. of Westport; grandchildren, Tyler, Zoie, Fallon, and Lucas; a large extended family, and many friends.

            A kind and generous soul, Gus was always willing to help. He received the Marian Medal from the Fall River Diocese in 2018, as a St. Anne’s Parish member, in recognition for his dedicated service to the church.

            Gus was a loyal and loving family-man, who enjoyed reading, watching sports, and performing his charitable work as president of the St. Vincent DePaul Society. He is loved, missed, and will always be remembered.

            Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Calling Hours to be held in Silva-Faria Funeral Home, 730 Bedford Street, Fall River, on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm with strict adherence to state mandates designed to mitigate the spreading of the Coronavirus (COVID-19). All will be required to wear masks (covering both nose and mouth) and to maintain social/physical distancing while in the funeral home – with patience and understanding appreciated, in light of building occupancy limits.

            His Funeral Mass will be offered in Our Lady of Grace Church on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 10:00 am. Committal Service and interment will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery.

            Gathering at the funeral home prior to mass is private.

            Family members are always grateful for relatives and friends wishing to make in-person expressions of kindness and support. But in consideration of the pandemic, those who have flu-like symptoms, or who are at risk due to compromised health conditions, are kindly urged to convey sympathy online or by mail.

    My name is Richard Fletcher. I was very sorry to hear about Gus when I went to the garage today. He was a wonderful person that always did such a good job on my car. Always giving the best advice for repairs. I send my sincere sympathy to the family. RIP Gus , you were such a wonderful person.
