The Mattapoisett Zoning Board of Appeals met on Thursday, September 17, at 6:00 pm in Town Hall to hear one case: a request for a special permit.
John and Nasira Ewing of 25 North Street sought a special permit for the demolition of the lot’s existing garage and the construction of a new two-car garage in its place. The firm Saltonstall Architects oversees the project and represented their client to the board, with architect Will Saltonstall. The Ewings have owned the home for the past few years and are making improvements, with this one focusing on removing the existing one-car garage on the corner of the lot and building a new, larger garage.
“We tried to be complementary to the history of the house and keep it simple,” Saltonstall said.
There was some discussion among the board regarding the property’s dwelling, which has a drawing that appears to show an existing two-car garage. John Ewing was present and explained that the original garage had two bays, though it has lost some space because previous owners converted part of it into an office.
Pat Donahue introduced herself as the most direct abutter and stated she has no issues with the project. The Zoning Board of Appeals accepted the project as proposed with a unanimous vote of approval, and immediately voted to suspend the meeting following the vote.
The next meeting of the Mattapoisett Zoning Board of Appeals is scheduled for Thursday, October 15.
