“Pollock” Screening at the Mattapoisett Library

As part of the “One Book, Tri-Town” series focus on the novel, The Muralist, by B. A. Shapiro, the public libraries of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester are screening “Pollock” at the Mattapoisett Library on Wednesday, March 20at 6:00 pm.

The film stars Ed Harris as Jackson Pollock, and Marcia Gay Harden as his wife and fellow artist, Lee Krasner. It opens at the end of the 1940s with the abstract expressionist living a rough life in lower Manhattan, exhibiting only occasionally. He meets Lee Krasner, who sees his talent and comes to oversee his life and career, working to keep him sober and focused on his work. He does experience success and fame, as well as a sad and ugly return to his old ways. Rated R, the film ends as abruptly as his life.

One of the film’s strengths is its depiction of the art scene of the period, its patrons, and partygoers. Other well-known artists are also woven throughout.

The public is welcome to this free event. The library is located at 7 Barstow Street.
