May Programs at Plumb Library

The New Bedford Art Museum’s Art Mobile will visit the Plumb Library on Saturday, May 11from 12 :00 pm – 2:00 pm. This visit, sponsored by the Rochester Cultural Council, is part of the “One Book, Tri-Town” series of programs and events. Children ages 5 and up are invited to drop in to visit the Art Mobile and meet the experienced art educators who will engage the children with fun and educational art activities. No registration is needed. 

            Come join “Girl Power Yoga”, an energizing and uplifting class for girls on Saturday, May 18at 11:00 am at the Plumb Library, 17 Constitution Way, Rochester. Class will include active yoga and mindfulness instruction to inspire physical and emotional development. Let’s develop a strong sense of self and work on developing friendships, confidence, and self-esteem. There will be a make-and-take project as part of this class. It is recommended that you bring a yoga mat or towel, and a water bottle to each session. Space is limited to 8 girls. Register through the Event Calendar or call 528-763-8600.

            Just in time for Mother’s Day, Plumb Library is offering a Flower Arrangement Workshop with Bunny Mogilnicki on Thursday, May 9at 4:30 pm. If you are a current Jr. Friend, or are at least 8 years old, you are invited to this special workshop. Ms. Bunny Mogilnicki, owner of Bunny’s Bouquets, will lead you through the steps of creating a unique flower arrangement. Supplies will be provided, thanks to the Friends of Plumb Library.             “Just the Facts”, the Plumb Library Nonfiction Book Club will meet on Thursday, May 16at 6:30 pm to discuss Sebastian Junger’s book Tribe: On Homecoming and Belonging. This book explores the historical, psychological, and anthropological roles of tribal societies to examine the human instinct to belong to small, purposeful groups and how regaining tribal connections may be essential to mental survival in the modern world. 

            The COA Book Group meets at the Rochester COA, Dexter Lane, on Tuesday, May 21at 10:15 am to discuss Anita Shreve’s book The Pilot’s Wife. A pilot’s wife is taught to be prepared for the late-night knock at the door. But when Kathryn Lyons receives word that a plane flown by her husband, Jack, has exploded near the coast of Ireland, she confronts the unfathomable — one startling revelation at a time. Soon drawn into a maelstrom of publicity fueled by rumors that Jack led a secret life, Kathryn sets out to learn who her husband really was, whatever that knowledge might cost. Her search propels this taut, impassioned novel as it movingly explores the question, How well can we ever really know another person? Books are available at the library.

            Cafe Parlez continues it’s year of discussing books with one-word titles on Thursday, May 30at 6:30 pm with the book Vox, by Christina Dalcher. Marginalized in a near-future America where the government limits women to no more than 100 spoken words daily before outlawing women’s education and employment altogether, a former doctor resolves to be heard for the sake of her daughter.
