Gateway Youth Hockey

Pee Wees: Gateway Pee Wees played Norwood on Sunday morning in what would prove to be a nail biter. After a scoreless first period, Gateway got on the board early in the second period off of a goal by Ben Demoranville. Gateway held the lead for most of the second with the superior goal tending of Ryker King who saved many challenging shots. Norwood came back with a goal late in the second and two early in the third to take the lead. Gateway answered with one of their own by RJ Vickery, but were still one behind with under two minutes remaining. Just as Gateway pulled their goalie, Stephen Old scored a break-away goal to tie the game with a minute left. One final push and some impressive moves by Vickery resulted in Gateway taking the lead with 33 seconds on the clock. Norwood pulled their goalie for one last chance, but Vickery hit the open net to end the game with a hat trick and a score of 5-3.

Bantams: The Gateway Gladiator Bantams were defeated by the Walpole Express, 2-1. Bryan Gallagher got Gateway on the scoreboard first as he sent a slapshot through traffic and off the stick of a Walpole defenseman. However, Walpole rallied and skated a strong second period. Looking sluggish, Gateway lost the lead and eventually the game. Walpole leads the season series 3-1. The Gladiators will look to rebound as the two teams meet again this weekend.
