On August 13, the first “Bike Friendly Mattapoisett” meeting was held at the Mattapoisett Library. The group in attendance selected the following action priorities: 1) Create a social bike riding club; 2) Create a set of publicly available riding maps for people of different riding abilities; 3) Work with the town to improve safety at bike path intersections and Route 6 crossings; 4) Work with the police to enhance the bike safety instruction program currently presented to the town’s schools. Membership in this group is open to all people interested in encouraging better bicycling in the region.
A second meeting is scheduled for September 17 at 6:00 pm at the Mattapoisett Library. Anyone interested in mapping bike ride routes is welcome. We’ll be using old-fashioned maps and Internet technology. Please come and share your favorite rides. There will be an update on the bike riding club at that time. You can get on the email list for the riding club and/or the Bike Friendly Mattapoisett group by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
