Eloise Hiller

Eloise Hiller, of Marion, passed away on May 29, 2019 at Sippican Healthcare at the age of 87. She was born and grew up in Wareham, the youngest of eight children. She graduated from Wareham High School and was always proud of the fact that she grew up in Wareham. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Viola (Besse) Murphy.

            Eloise married and moved to Marion in 1956 working as a secretary and bookkeeper for Michaud and Matoes Home Builders. She was also co owner of the Sippican Shop in Marion. She loved to cook and was well known for her cooking at the restaurant.

            Eloise was a charter member of Wareham Assembly #56 , International Order of Rainbow for Girls and a member of Alcyone and then Agawam Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered at Penny Pinchers Exchange in Marion for many years. When her daughter started teaching at Carver Middle High School she became actively involved in the school and was honored to receive the Friends of Carver High School award for her contributions to the school. She was well known to all in the school community. Every year, with the help of her daughter, she would love to decorate the foyer for graduation. She found great joy making this day special for the families and cared deeply for everyone at the school.

            She also loved working in the yard, sewing and making crafts. She also loved the many animals that she owned or would pass through the yard.

            She is survived by her daughter Susan of Marion, whose love for her mother can never be expressed in words. She was the sister of the late Roland (Pat) Murphy, Earl (Chile) Murphy, Quentin (Quint)Murphy, Robert (Bob)Murphy, and Maurice (Trudge) Murphy.  She was also the sister of the late Madelyn Murphy and Barbara Howlett. She leaves several nieces and nephews.

            Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, June 3, 2019 at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway, Wareham. Burial will be private at Centre Cemetery. A Celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
