Thursday, October 15, was a crisp, beautiful afternoon, and cars began rolling up to the Mechanic Street parking lot of the Mattapoisett Congregational Church at 27 Church St. at 5:00 pm to drop off bags and boxes of food for Damien’s Pantry in Wareham.
The Mission Team filled two pickup trucks with a total of 797 pounds of food collected, bringing the grand total of food donated from September and October to 1,265 pounds. The Mission Team is so grateful for the generosity of the Mattapoisett community.
The next food collection will be on Thursday, November 19, from 5:00 to 6:30 pm (note the new time); please encourage your friends and neighbors to participate. There will also be bins in the Congregational Church’s Reynard Hall for food donations, if that is more convenient.
Nonperishable items such as cooking oil, breakfast foods, dish detergent and oral hygiene products are especially welcome as are diapers and wipes, shampoo, bar soap, laundry detergent, dish detergent and toiletries. Specialty foods for gluten-free diets, dairy-free/lactose-free diets and allergen-free (nut-free/egg-free) diets are also needed.
Let’s do our part to feed our neighbors in need on the South Coast.
