The Mattapoisett Congregational Church at 27 Church St., Mattapoisett, invites the community to join a simple monthly effort to help ensure everyone has enough food to put on the table. On the third Thursday of every month, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, please drive by and drop off your donation of nonperishable food to one of the volunteers waiting in the side parking lot of the church. Sometimes helping our neighbors begins with something as simple as picking up an extra can of soup, a box of pasta or a jar of peanut butter at the grocery store. That is the spirit behind Drop and Drive.
Those nonperishable donations are collected and shared with Damien’s Food Pantry in Wareham, helping provide food to local individuals and families. The food drive dates are September 17, October 15, November 19 and December 17 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
“Food insecurity can touch any family,” said Pastor Michael Frady from the Missions Committee. “A job loss, an unexpected expense, rising grocery prices or simply a difficult season can make it harder for a household to keep food on the table. Drop and Drive is one small way we can say to our neighbors, ‘You are not alone. We are here for one another.’”
The concept is intentionally simple. Bring a donation. Drop it off. Drive on. There is no lengthy commitment, no registration and no requirement to make a large donation. A single item can become part of a much larger expression of community care.
“We want Drop and Drive to be accessible to everyone,” said Frady. “You don’t have to make a major contribution to make a difference. If each of us adds just a little, together we can provide a lot.”
The Mattapoisett Congregational Church is a welcoming Congregational church committed to serving God and neighbors through worship, community, outreach and acts of compassion. Through Drop and Drive and other community ministries, the church seeks to put faith into action by helping create a community where everyone is valued, welcomed and cared for. At the beginning of every worship service, our pastor begins, “Whoever you are, wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at Mattapoisett Congregational Church.”
