October Events at the Mattapoisett Library

The holidays are upon us! In celebration, we have several new programs for children to enjoy. On Thursday, October 14, at 3:15 pm, sign up for our “No-Sew Monster Fleece Craft.” Using fleece, stuffing, and your imagination, create your own cuddly monster. Recommended for ages 8 and up. Registration is required.

Starting Wednesday, October 20, at 3:15 pm, Ukulele Lessons for Kids begins its weekly sessions through December 8 (except Thanksgiving Week). Children will learn the very basics, including tuning, strumming, simple chords, and songs. Please let us know if your child needs to borrow a ukulele from the library and we’ll put one aside for them. Recommended for children 8 and up. Registration is required.

On Thursday, October 21, at 3:15 pm, kids 9 years and up can sign up for our monthly graphic novel book club. Our first graphic novel is, “The Okay Witch,” by Emma Steinkellner. The book club will include a brief discussion of the book, a craft, snack, and an introduction to next month’s book. Recommended for children 9 years and up. Registration is required.

On Saturday, October 30, at 10:30 am, we will be hosting a Halloween craft session where children can decorate a bag for trick or treating or just for the fun of it. Recommended for ages 4 and up. Registration is required.

Finally, the library is hosting two weekly story time sessions, both at 10:30 am on Thursday and Friday mornings. Storytots on Thursday mornings is a simple story time geared toward toddlers. Songs and Stories with Miss Chris on Friday is for children up to age 5 and includes a simple craft. For Halloween week, we will offer our special “Trick or Treat Through the Library” story time sessions. Children are encouraged to wear costumes, (but are not required), as we take a short walk through the library to collect small “treats.” No registration is required.
