Getting Dressed in 1900

Abigail Field will present “Getting Dressed in 1900” on Sunday, March 24at 2:00 pm at the Mattapoisett Museum (5 Church Street). Clothing historically has been indicative of the socio-economic sphere of the time, and from it we can learn an awful lot about the lives of people throughout history. There are many of myths associated with women’s clothing up until the 1920s, including wild statements like “women broke their ribs with corsets!” and “they wore so many layers they simply could not move with any degree of ease!”, and the classic “oh well, people were just smaller back then.” How much truth lies in these statements? Join us to find out. Questions? Please email info@mattapoisetthistoricalsociety.org or call 508-758-2844.
