Deep Ocean Vents Program

The Marion Natural History Museum will present Deep Ocean hydrothermal vents and #LifeAfterVents with Dr. Stace Beaulieu, senior research specialist with Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, on October 16, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Please register at www.marionmuseum.org.

Hydrothermal vents, or hot springs, have been described as oases of life in the deep ocean. But what happens to the ecosystem after a hydrothermal vent stops venting? This presentation will take you virtually on a dive in the human-occupied vehicle Alvin to the deep ocean floor to investigate life on lesser-studied inactive sulfide features. Join us October 16 to learn about this new research at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation.
