Fall is quickly approaching, and Miss Macy is excited to welcome kids of all ages back to the Elizabeth Taber Library for programs. Information about all programs can be found at elizabethtaberlibrary.org/events. All children’s programs are held on a regular schedule starting the Tuesday after Labor Day through December.
Starting September 8, Family Storytime will resume on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am. This storytime program is designed for kids ages 0–5 and their caregivers. Stories, songs, movement activities and rhymes help develop early literacy skills.
Afternoon Activities also begin on Tuesday, September 8. Between 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm, kids in grades K–4 are invited to drop in to the library for a new librarian-led activity each week. On September 8, we’ll be making sun prints.
Starting September 10, Messy Morning is back on Thursdays at 10:30 am. Kids ages 2–5, their siblings and caregivers are invited to participate in a different process art or sensory activity every week. The library provides aprons, but we recommend dressing to get messy.
Lapsit Storytime will resume on Monday, September 14, at 10:00 am. This program is designed for babies ages 0–24 months. We focus on encouraging positive bonding experiences through literature and supporting parents as they engage their child in early literacy activities. The library will open its doors at 9:50 am for this program.
On September 14, we’re excited to introduce Nursery Rhyme Time, a new program for ages 3–5 held at 11:00 am. Each week will focus on a different nursery rhyme through simple, interactive activities. Research shows that knowledge of nursery rhymes can be a predictor of reading readiness when a child reaches kindergarten.
Tweens in grades 5–8 are invited to join us for Library Society at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, September 16. This service-learning group will learn about library work, brainstorm ways the library can meet the needs of kids in our community, and complete service projects like preparing activities for the library’s Halloween party, making library displays and decorations, and developing activities for Marion’s 175th anniversary.
