Since February, the three communities of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester have sponsored events related to the novel by Shapiro that develops historical characters active in the WPA arts project including well known artists and Eleanor Roosevelt. Concerts, theatre, lectures, films, book discussions, and art projects have all supported the theme of the importance of public art raised in the novel. The public is encouraged to reserve seats by calling one of the Tri-Town libraries since space is limited. Those who reserve a seat will be eligible to win an autographed copy of “The Muralist.” This program is sponsored in part by the Cultural Councils of Marion, Mattapoisett, and Rochester that receive funds from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The Mattapoisett Free Public Library is located at 7 Barstow Street. Plan early because parking is limited due to other events in the area that day.
