Adult Events at the Mattapoisett Library

Visit us at the Mattapoisett Free Public Library, located at 7 Barstow Street.

Meet a team of mystery authors at the Sisters in Crime Mystery-Making event on October 7 at 6:00 pm. Edith Maxwell, Kit Irwin and Sharon-Healy Yang will brainstorm on their feet to create a brand-new mystery. Attendees will contribute to this fun, fast-paced improv game to create the story. Registration is optional.

Get into the October spirit with a spooky film, The Cat and the Canary, on October 13 at 6:00 pm. Can a group of distant relatives survive the night in a haunted house to learn the secret of a madman’s will? Find out in the original Gothic thriller from silent film director Paul Leni, with live music accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis. Remember: in silent film, no one can hear you scream. Registration is optional, but priority will be given to those who have registered.

Looking for a book club to join? There’s plenty at the Mattapoisett Library to choose from. The Fantasy Book Club is meeting on October 14 at 6:00 pm to discuss What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher. The Fiction Book Club is meeting on October 18 at 2:00 pm to discuss Lula Dean’s Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller. Finally, the Nonfiction Book Club is meeting on October 28 at 6:00 pm to discuss We the People: A History of the U.S. Constitution by Jill Lepore. Copies of all books are available at the library for checkout. New members are welcome.

Join us for an Adult Craft Workshop at the library on October 17 at 1:00 pm. During this session, we will be painting miniature pumpkins to take home. Get creative and create a piece of decor that works for you or to give as a gift to someone else. Please register below to reserve your spot.

Come to an Author Talk with Katie Bernet on October 24 at 2:00 pm. Katie Bernet is the New York Times and international bestselling author of Beth Is Dead, the inaugural selection for Reese Witherspoon’s Sunnie Reads Book Club and has been translated into more than a dozen languages. Adults and teens will enjoy this mystery-thriller. Copies are available at the library for checkout. Registration is optional.
