The More the Merrier: Seeking New Members

The Friends of the Elizabeth Taber Library would love to have you join our productive and rewarding volunteer group that provides valuable monetary support to the Marion library, which is the center of our children’s education and development, while continuing to provide community services and resources for all individuals seeking knowledge and innovative events.

If you’re interested in increasing your volunteer work in the Tri-Town area, this group will help you make a meaningful impact in promoting early and lifelong literacy success.

Meetings for the Friends of the Elizabeth Taber Library group are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 10:30 am in the library and last an hour. The structure of the meetings follows an agenda which is sent in an email to each member beforehand. The members vote, discuss financials, review latest event successes, plan and implement ideas for the next event, and assign members to subcommittees to complete all aspects of producing a public event.

The Friends sponsor three book sale events in the spring, summer, and holiday season, which require considerable member participation. We hold book drop-off days, unpack books, assemble tables and design displays by genre to prepare for the book sale. During the book sale, members greet and assist customers, work the cash register, arrange books and socialize with everyone who attends.

After the book sale, members and helpers clean up the tables, books, and event location. Members can choose days and times that fit their schedules.

In early spring, the Friends hold an annual Tea Party in the Marion Music Hall with professional entertainment, sandwiches and pastries. Members set up the tea party, serve customers and help with clean-up. These events and parties benefit the library’s finances while deepening lifelong friendships and camaraderie among members.

The spring 2027 event has been discussed, but the Friends are exploring alternative options for entertainment and refreshments, so stay tuned.

Currently, the Friends of the Elizabeth Taber Library fund various educational and entertainment programs and museum passes at the library. We endow a large monetary contribution to the Elizabeth Taber Library general operating budget every June, so administrators and trustees can maintain current extracurricular activities and programs and implement new and innovative projects for our community.

Please consider joining the Friends of the Elizabeth Taber Library for our next meeting on the first Wednesday of each month at the Elizabeth Taber Library. You can email any interests to our email account: friendsoftheetl@gmail.com
