Marion Art Center

The Marion Art Center will hold the Annual Meeting in the MAC’s Anne Braitmayer Webb Theater on Thursday, October 15, at 4:30 pm. All members are invited to attend, either in person or virtually. Zoom information will be provided on the website before the meeting and can be requested by emailing info@marionartcenter.org.

The MAC Annual Halloween Parade Returns: The MAC’s annual Halloween Parade returns on Saturday, October 31. Our witches and warlocks have been brewing up plans for their parade around town. Costumed characters of all ages are invited to join in for this fun family event.

Participants should meet in front of the Marion Music Hall (we’ll line up on Cottage Street) at 4:00 pm. Join the parade of witches and princesses, goblins and ghouls, wild animals and spooky spirits. The parade route will head south on Front Street, up Main Street, north onto Spring Street and back down Cottage to the Music Hall, where the witches of the MAC will hand out candy to all.

Don’t forget to pop by the Music Hall at the end of the parade route for your treat bags, made with love by the good witches of the MAC. Goodie bags are available for those with allergies or food sensitivities — just ask for a Teal Pumpkin goodie bag.

The MAC will be accepting candy donations from now through October 30. More information can be found at marionartcenter.org/events.

New Half-Day Camps at the MAC: Early dismissal day for your child? The MAC offers two new half-day camps for the kids to explore their creativity.

Turn it Up. Art Camp: Rock, Pop and Make will be held on Thursday, October 29, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm in the MAC Theater and Studio. Turn the half-day into a rock concert. Campers will build a one-of-a-kind boom box from recycled materials, decorative paper and plenty of imagination. They’ll create a bold rock star self-portrait that captures their own big personality, and design wearable jewelry to complete their signature look.

The Woodland Wonders: A Harvest Art Camp will be held on Friday, October 30, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm in the MAC Theater and Studio. Come gather with us in the studio for a cozy afternoon of fall-inspired art. Campers will celebrate the season by making nature-themed crafts to wear, display, and take home. Campers will design a nature crown fit for a woodland king or queen, using leaves, feathers, and autumn colors. They’ll craft a charming squirrel in a tree scene, complete with bushy tails and ground covered in fall foliage. They’ll also create beautiful watercolor leaf prints, discovering how real leaves can become colorful works of art.

Both camps are $95 for MAC member families and $110 for nonmembers. Registration and information can be found at marionartcenter.org/art-lab

The Second Session of Art + Play starts October 26: The next session of Art + Play, the program for accompanied children from 2-5 years old, will run for four weeks, October 26 to November 16. Classes meet in the MAC Studio on Monday mornings from 9:30 am to 10:30 am.

Art + Play focuses on process art, which is a playful and explorative approach to creating. Here, the journey is more important than the final product. We believe children learn best through hands-on exploration and experimentation with a variety of materials and techniques. Each class offers several creative opportunities, empowering your child to make their own choices and work at their own pace.

The cost for MAC member families is $95 and it is $105 for nonmembers. Register online at marionartcenter.org/art-lab.
