Appointments, Resignation Top Agenda

Board appointments and a board vacancy dominated the agenda when the Rochester Select Board met briefly on September 8.

The board began by appointing resident Timothy White to the Board of Assessors for a term expiring with the results of the spring 2027 election. This appointment will replace assessor Jana Cavanaugh, who passed away this year.

The board then appointed resident James Bergeron as a new alternate member of the Historic District Commission for a term expiring on April 30, 2027, and former Park Commission member David Hughes as a new full member of the Soil Board.

Lastly, it accepted the resignation of James Austin from the Finance Committee. This prompted board member Adam Murphy to note that Austin must be replaced as soon as possible. Town Administrator Cameron Durant said he will post the vacancy right away on the town website and applicants are welcome to respond immediately.

In other news, the board announced the Police and Fire Departments’ Second Annual Rochester “Guns and Hoses Golf Outing” fundraising tournament is scheduled for September 18 at the Acushnet River Valley Golf Course. Durant said those interested in the event should visit the Fire Department’s Facebook page for more information.

The Rochester Select Board did not set its next meeting before adjourning.
