Rochester Historical Society

The monthly meeting of the Rochester Historical Society will be held on the third Wednesday, August 19, at 7:00 pm at the Rochester Historical Museum, 355 County Rd. After a short meeting, Mack Phinney will present “The Life of a Revolutionary Soldier.” If you are looking for something to help you celebrate the 250th, or you’re interested in setting up a Rochester historic militia unit, then this is the event for you. Following the program, there will be refreshments and conversation.

Anyone interested in viewing the current exhibit “Rochester and the Revolution” can do so by getting in touch at 617-750-2818 or at eshbach2@aol.com.

On August 22, the Rochester Historical Commission, with the help of the Historical Society, will be at the center of town for a semiquincentennial event, followed by a celebration of the Plumb Library’s 50 years.

First, at 10:00 am, we’ll honor the Rochester soldiers of the Revolution with a brief ceremony at the Revolutionary War Memorial in front of Town Hall. Chris Gerrior will talk about Rochester’s place in Revolutionary history.

Next, Connie Eshbach will lead a very short walking tour where the long and proud history of Rochester’s libraries will be discussed. This will be followed by some unique, topic-related games and prizes, and then end before noon with cookies outside the library.
