Albert Ervin Winters

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather
Albert Winters passed away peacefully June 3rd, 2026, his wife Marilyn at his side, in New Bloomfield, PA where he lived for the last year of his life.
Al was born August 8th, 1938, in Marion, Massachusetts, the place he called “home” all his life despite living in many other places, to George Winters and Eudora West Winters Brown. He graduated Tabor Academy, and then graduated from Carnegie Tech and the University of Rochester with degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration, respectively. He worked for Sperry Corporation, Burroughs, and then Unisys, ending his career there as a Vice President and General Manager of Power and Cable Operations. In later years, he served for 9 years as a Marion Town Selectman, where he helped lead numerous initiatives. Throughout his life he was an active participant in numerous philanthropies and hobby clubs, including the Masons, sailing clubs, Habitat for Humanity, woodworking and harpmaking clubs, the Society for Creative Anachronism, and numerous church committees at the First Congregational Church of Marion and other churches. He once proudly served on a committee in Washington, D.C., advising the government on computer technology at the time.
Al was driven to always be learning and doing, and he displayed leadership and intelligence in everything he did. A lifelong woodworker who made items ranging from furniture to pens to harps to model ships to a fully rebuilt sailboat, he loved to create things by the work of his hands and mind. He was known for his wicked sense of humor and charm, always ready with banter and a story. A world traveler, he went to many places for work or for pleasure, including living in Paris, France for three years, and trips to many European countries as well as China, India, Mexico, Greenland, and Canada. He loved reading both fiction and nonfiction, especially mysteries and thrillers, histories, and anything about the sea.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Marilyn, and their children, Michael Arthur Winters, and Elizabeth Holliday Wood (Vernon “Chip”), and granddaughter Sofie Santiago-Winters, and numerous relatives in the extended family.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered.
