Everett C. Gallego

Everett C. Gallego, 97, of Marion died November 20, 2011 at the Cape Heritage Nursing Home, Sandwich. He was the widower of the late Edna May (Bentley) Gallego and the son of the late Jacintho C. and Maria (Vieira) Gallego. He was born in New Bedford, raised in Dartmouth and lived in Marion for many years. Mr. Gallego was a proud WWII Army Air Corps Veteran. Mr. Gallego was a talented craftsman and artist. He taught at the Swain School of Design and several area high schools. He was also a talented dog trainer and showed dogs at Westminster Kennel Club Dog Shows. His family is eternally grateful to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod and Cape Heritage and C.C. Senior Residence for the compassionate care extended to Everett and his family. Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Smith and her husband Stephen of East Sandwich; 4 brothers, Jesse, Stanley, Richard and Matthew Galligo; 5 sisters, Lillian Reed, Helen Openshaw, Alice Naja, Marion Silvia and Madeline Henderson; 2 granddaughters, Pamela Fournier and her husband David of West Yarmouth and Jennifer Smith and her husband Robert Rennie of Wilton, NH; 3 great grandchildren, Shawna and Jay Smith and Brodie Kendrick; one great great granddaughter, Amora Smith. His graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Shirley Mason of Natick, passed away on November 17, 2011, as she lived her life, surrounded by those who mattered most, her family. Shirley was born September 25, 1937 in Keene, NH. She was fortunate enough to spend the better part of her life with her devoted husband Louis Mason. Together they enjoyed traveling all around the country, antiquing, genealogy, volunteering at the Natick Senior Center, but mostly spending time with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. During her 5 year battle with breast cancer, Shirley showed all who knew her that warriors are not only strong, they are also kind, loving and beautiful. She was constantly on the lookout for other warriors and reached out to them, sharing her own battle hoping to let them know that they were not alone. A part of Shirley will always live on in her children and their spouses, daughter Kim Polky and her husband Timothy of St. George, ME, daughter Kelly Sullivan-Morgado and her husband Walter Morgado of Rochester, MA, daughter Kathy Gubernat and her husband John of Pepperell, MA, son James Sullivan and his husband Frank Sapp of Fairhaven, MA and son Daniel Sullivan and his wife Nancy of Plymouth, MA. Step Children Susan and her husband Rod Swanson of Eagle, NE, Louis and his wife Gloria Mason of Lincoln, NE and David and his wife Kim of Coeur D’Alene, ID. A life time of memories shared with grandchildren, Eben Polky, Emily Dotsie, Ryan Kelly, Daniel Hartley, John Gubernat, Patrick Gubernat, Kelsey Gubernat, Liam Sullivan and Rory Sullivan, Louis Mason III, Frank Zwonechek, Joshua Mason, Kyle Mason and Trevor Mason. The newest family members to bring a twinkle to her eye, great grandchildren Nolan Kelly and Madelyn Dotsie. Shirley had a special place in her heart for her nieces, nephews and her lifelong friend Sandra Fitzpatrick of Enfield, NH. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Monday November 21, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Tuesday November 22 , from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street,at Natick Common. Her burial will be celebrated in the spring. There will be a memory box available during visiting hours for those who would like to place a small memento or note to be buried along with her. Carrie (Helliwell) Scott, 89, of Mattapoisett died November 16, 2011 at Royal of Fairhaven. She was the wife of the late Earl A. Scott. Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ethel Pheobe (Clegg) Helliwell, she lived in Mattapoisett most of her life. Mrs. Scott was the co-owner with her late husband on Crandview Trailers. She was a member of Tinkham Helping Hands Society and was an avid bowler. The family would like thank the staff at the Royal of Fairhaven for their loving care and kindness. Survivors include 4 sons, Ronald E. Scott and his wife Janet, Earl A. Scott, Jr. and his wife Gloria, Peter C. Scott and Barry E. Scott and his wife Michele, all of Mattapoisett; a daughter, Bethann Oliver and her husband William of Fairhaven; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Alice Crawford, Roy Helliwell and Sally Brittan. Her Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 19th at 5 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Rd. (Rt. 6) Mattapoisett. Miriam G. Fisher

Miriam G. Fisher, age 102, died on November 16, 2011 at Forestview Nursing Center in Wareham. For most of her life, she was a resident of Marion, MA She is survived by her son, Kenneth Romaine Graham Fisher, and two grandsons. She has relatives across the country, including her sister-in-law Helen Smith Graham, her nephews Kenneth Graham, Jr. and Robert Harlow Graham, and her niece Lynda Graham Ridge and her husband Martin Ridge. She was cared for over many years by her dear friend, Jean Daly, the kindly staff of Forestview and her friends at Lantz Law, Inc. Ms. Fisher graduated from Taunton High School with high honors. She went on to attend Boston University where she earned her bachelor of arts degree. She served for more than 30 years as the Principal Clerk of the 4th District Court of Plymouth County, the longest serving principal clerk in the history of that court. She loved to sing and for many years sang in the choir of Wareham Congregational Church. Miriam was born in Berkley, MA where she lived with her parents, Elmer Graham and Maude Miriam Kistler Graham. For many years, Miriam, with her brother Kenneth, was home schooled by their highly talented mother. When Miriam’s parents decided the children needed to go to public school for proper socialization, Miriam was advanced two grades ahead of her peers. Maude Graham was an accomplished pianist, and Mr. Graham was originally an actuary before becoming a trout culturist. Ms. Fisher’s funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 25, 2011 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., (Rte. 28), Wareham. Jeanne M. (Allen) Skapik, 82, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham. She was the wife of the late Eugene P. Skapik. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Bernard & Marion (Ryan) Allen. After her high school graduation, she attended the New England Conservatory of Music. She moved to Wareham in 1971. Mrs. Skapik was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict serving from 1950 to 1951. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her children, Karen Spinosa and David Peck both of Wareham, Stephen Peck of Falmouth, Marion White of Marion, Diane Mestieri and Nancy Skapik both of Wareham, Lisa Skapik of Fall River and Michael Skapik of Acushnet; her sisters, Barbara Gruchy of Scottsdale, AZ, Ruth Ahearn of Ft. Myers, FL, Marion Beckwith of Marshfield and Jill Eaton of Decatur, AL. Her funeral will be Thurs., Nov. 17 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 9:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 10:00 AM. Walter E. "Buddy" Parker, 81 of Fairhaven passed away Friday, November 11, 2011 at Alden Court Nursing and Rehab Center in Fairhaven after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Helen T. (Moniz) Parker. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Walter and Angelina (Mello) Parker, he lived most of his life in Fairhaven. Buddy worked many years in the seafood industry and was the former owner/operator of J.B. Fillet. He enjoyed trips to Foxwoods but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He is survived by four sons, Roger Parker and his wife Kathy of Fairhaven, Wayne A. Parker, Sr. and his wife Donna of Wareham, Thomas Parker and his wife Lynda of Rochester and Walter E. Parker, Jr. and his wife Karen of Acushnet; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Parker was the brother of the late Irene Singleton and great grandfather of the late Nathan Parker. Manuel J. Cabral, 73, of Fairhaven passed away Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Royal of Fairhaven after a long illness. He was the husband of Karen J. (Abendroth) Cabral. Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Manuel Cabral, Sr. and the late Elsie D. (Costa) Cabral, he was a lifelong resident of the town. Mr. Cabral was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and graduate of Fairhaven High School class of 1956. He served in the Navy from 1957-1962 and later served in the Army Reserve. Manuel worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber for 18 years until his retirement in 1991. He then worked as a custodian at New Bedford Vocational High School for 10 years. He was a life member of the Thomas Livesey Memorial Club and a former member of the Fin, Fur and Feather Club in Mattapoisett. Mr. Cabral’s family would like to thank the staff at the Royal of Fairhaven for their loving care and kindness. He is survived by his wife; two sons, Matthew J. Cabral and his wife Sherry of Ocean Springs, Mississippi and Mark S. Cabral of Fairhaven; a daughter, Kristine R. (Cabral) Silva and her husband Alberto of Fairhaven; four grandchildren, Heather and Andrew Cabral and Kennedy and Meredith Silva; a great grandson, Saul Lemco; two brothers, James Cabral and his wife Beverly of Holiday, FL and William Cabral of Fairhaven and several nieces and nephews. Armand J . Poulin, 89, of Knight St. Attleboro, died Thursday November 10, 2011 in the Lifecare Center of Attleboro. He was born in St. Honore of Shenley Canada. He was the son of the late Oliver & Albertine (LaPointe) Poulin. He was a custodian for the former Industrial Trust Bank, for many years. Armand was a US Army Veteran serving as a Private First Class during WWII. He has lived in Attleboro for most of his life also living in South Attleboro, he was a parishioner of the former St. Stephen Church. He is survived by a brother Roland Poulin of Mapleville, RI, 2 sisters Rita Palardy of Mattapoisett, MA. and Dolores Blais of Somerset MA. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Raymond Poulin. His funeral service will be held Friday at 11:30am in the Foley – Hathaway Funeral Home, 126 South Main Street, Attleboro, Massachusetts, burial will follow at 1:30 pm in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne MA. Katelyn "Katie" Brienzo, 29, of Fairhaven was killed when she was struck by an automobile Tuesday, November 8, 2011. Katie was born in New Bedford, the daughter of Karen (Waitt) Fostin of Fairhaven and Dennis J. Brienzo of Fairhaven. She lived in Fairhaven all of her life and was a graduate of Fairhaven High School Class of 2001. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven. Katie was a stacker at Market Basket as well as a secretary for the Commission on Disabilities in Fairhaven. She was also a secretary for the Economic Development Commission and had worked at Stop and Shop in Fairhaven. She was a member of MO Life and spoke nationally at conventions for APSE the Disabilities National Chapter. She was a member of Our Lady of Angels in Fairhaven, a former member of the Southeastern MA Educational Collaborative and loved taking cruises and traveling. She is survived by her parents and step mother, Sandra Brienzo all of Fairhaven; a brother Joel D. Brienzo of Fairhaven; three sisters, Gina Fitzgerald and her husband John W. Fitzgerald, Jr. of Fairhaven, Ashlee Lentini and her husband Joshua of Dartmouth and Julie Fostin and her fiancé Al Gonsalves of Rochester; an uncle, Robert Waitt of Fairhaven; God Parents, Ray and Elaine Brienzo of Acushnet; three nieces, Courtney-Rae, Alexis and Cloe Fitzgerald and her friend and mentor, Selectman Charles Murphy of Fairhaven. Thomas Peccini, 75 of New Bedford died November 7, 2011 at Brandon Woods of New Bedford. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Fred J. and Veronica (Munroe) Peccini, he lived in New Bedford all of his life. Survivors include 2 brothers, Alfred Peccini and his wife Arnett of Mattapoisett and Robert Peccini of New Bedford; a sister, Margaret Nunes and her husband William of New Bedford; several nieces and nephews. His private Funeral Mass was on Thursday, November 10th in Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Burial followed in St. Mary's Cemetery.
