Whale Watch567 viewsOn December 2, a small, curious humpback whale surfaced in Marion between Nye’s Wharf and Ram Island. Long-time residents of the town couldn’t remember a prior whale sighting. The animal looked to be about 20 feet long. Marion resident Michael Moore guessed from its size that the whale was young -- and a sight that young humans would not want to miss. Tabor Academy Polar Plunge567 viewsTabor Academy hosted its second annual Polar Plunge on Sunday, January 21 at Silvershell Beach to raise money for the school’s Special Olympics Young Athletes Program. Students from ‘fundraising rival’ Sandwich High also showed up, with scores of students and staff making a dash in and quickly out of the chilly waters. The plunge raised about $8,000. Marion Fire Department 567 viewsSunday was a solemn day for the Tri-Town and its first responders as many gathered to honor Thomas Nye, 72, a 45-year veteran of the Marion Fire Department who died February 27 in the line of duty. Over 100 firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel from the Tri-Town and beyond marched together down Route 6 in Mattapoisett on March 3 to pay their respects to their fallen comrade who suffered a cardiac arrest at home after assisting in a fire call the night before.
