Marion Recreation Department Lifeguards 500 viewsOn July 18 the Marion Recreation Department Lifeguards conducted a training drill at Silvershell Beach. Each week the lifeguards conduct training drills throughout the summer season. This particular drill was done with the Marion Harbormaster's Department and the Marion Fire/EMS Department.

Helene Craver Retires499 viewsMarion Town Hall employees got together for a farewell party last week, in honor of 23-year employee Helene Craver. Ms. Craver’s last scheduled day was August 24. As the administrative assistant to the Board of Selectmen, Ms. Craver is a wealth of Marion information, but she is perhaps best known as the candy source at the Town House. Marion Natural History Museum499 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a great time learning the difference between wild animal tracks, including coyote, raccoon, and bobcat. We also enjoyed practicing how to move like various animals by waddling, walking, bounding, and hopping. Bounding like a fisher cat and hopping like a snow shoe hare were by far the most difficult gaits to practice due to the placement of the rear feet versus the front. An audience watched the two throw poems like punches during the MAC’s May 3 event, “Dickinson vs. Whitman, the Poetry Knockout!” Stephen Collins was back in the Tri-Town as Walt Whitman, facing off against the Tri-Town’s own Annemarie Fredericks in poetic fisticuffs.

Marion Natural History Museum498 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed one of the last days of warm weather by using seining nets to investigate our local fish population. By far the most commonly caught animal was the Atlantic Silverside, and then in descending order mummichogs, shrimp, mud snails, and hermit crabs, with one or two small Menhaden. The kids cooled off in the water at the Marion Harbormaster's beach and enjoyed a lovely fall day. Many thanks to Maggie Payne for her help with the nets.
