Marion Natural History Museum487 viewsOn November 14, the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group enjoyed learning about what it takes to become a geologist and a paleontologist. We tried out some of the equipment and discussed working conditions. We learned about the three different types of rocks – sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic, and how they form, and inspected various rocks and minerals and fossils presenter Jim Pierson has collected over the years.

Marion Natural History Museum487 viewsDuring our after-school netting program at the Harbormaster's beach, the students had a chance to study a variety of our seashore animals. The totals were: 278 silversides, 14 mummichogs, 1 pipefish, 15 glass shrimp, 10 moon jellies, 1 sea nettle and 3 sea robins. There were many other larger fish but we couldn't get close enough to identify them. We were lucky enough to have a warm sunny day to enjoy the activity, and the museum would like to thank the student helpers from both Tabor Academy and ORRHS.

Helene Craver Retires486 viewsMarion Town Hall employees got together for a farewell party last week, in honor of 23-year employee Helene Craver. Ms. Craver’s last scheduled day was August 24. As the administrative assistant to the Board of Selectmen, Ms. Craver is a wealth of Marion information, but she is perhaps best known as the candy source at the Town House. The Wanderer wishes her all the best in her retirement. Photo courtesy of Judy Mooney.
