4th of July Parade502 viewsThe Sun finally broke through the clouds to help make for a glorious Tri-Town Fourth of July weekend highlighted by Marion's annual Independence Day Parade, hosted by the Benjamin D. Cushing Post 2425 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Parade goers lined the streets of Marion Village as floats, antique vehicles, bands, and emergency vehicles made their way along the parade route this past Saturday morning. Photo by Robert Chiarito.

Marion Natural History Museum502 viewsOne hull or two? On March 11, the Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group explored the physics behind sailboat design. Mark Whalen, engineer with Massachusetts Maritime Academy, introduced several alternative design ideas for constructing our own sailboats. The students explored a variety of hull designs, mast locations and different sizes and shapes of sails. Then they raced the vessels in rain gutters to see which design moved fastest.

for the Marion to Bermuda Yacht Race on Monday, June 20, 2011 at 11:30 am EST. The yacht, skippered and navigated by Mattapoisett residents Simon and Nancy De Pietro respectively, arrived in Bermuda at just under 69 hours. Other mates on the LILLA were: Watch Skipper: Jake Martin, Helmsmen: Ian Martin and D. Randy West, and crewmembers Andy Schwartzopff, Mike Lebov, Bruce Kuryla, Nigel Brennan, Katherine Bieber, Colin Campbell and Brian Knutsen. Photo by Fran Grenon.
