National Night Out506 viewsEEE can’t stop the NNO! (And neither can a little rain and thunder.) Despite an EEE “high risk” alert, the 7th annual Tri-Town National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6, was underway in front of ORR attracting locals to enjoy a summer afternoon of interacting with our emergency first responders and exploring the tools of their trade. SLT Oyster Fest 506 viewsThe Sippican Lands Trust’s Beer and Oyster Fest fundraiser was a hit despite the threat of approaching Hurricane Dorian, which was replaced with blue skies just in time, and holding the event earlier in the day mitigated the guests’ exposure to EEE-carrying mosquitos. The SLT sold 214 tickets and was pleased with the turnout. Photos by Shawn Sweet and Lauren Boucher.

Marion Natural History Museum506 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum had a great time learning how to identify some of our rare turtles and what to do if we find one. We found out which is our smelliest turtle and which can close up into a "box" so tight you can't even slip a piece of paper between its shell. The students had a chance to get up close with a diamondback terrapin, an Eastern box turtle, and an enormous Plymouth red-bellied cooter. Many thanks to Brian Bastarach of Bristol County Agricultural High School’s Natural Resources Dep

Do-Si-Do in Marion505 viewsOn Sunday, September 14, the first of what is hoped to be an annual series of Marion Square Dances was held inside the Marion Community Center. Although initially slated to take place in the parking lot adjacent to the Marion General Store, the weekends rainy weather forced the event indoors. Caller Jim Schell of Lakeville had veteran square dancers and novices alike promenading, allemanding, bowing to their partners and do-si-doing with ease. (Photo by Robert Chiarito).
