Marion Natural History Museum124 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a great time learning about Monarch life history and migration yesterday. The group sent a card to a school in Mexico near the Oyamel fir forests of the Central Highlands to share a little information about Marion. We’ll be hearing back from them next spring with more information about the Monarch’s winter habitat. Many thanks to Maggie Payne for sharing her butterfly expertise with the group! Please keep checking our website, www.marionmuseum.org, f

Marion Maritime Center123 viewsOn Tuesday morning, the ribbon was cut on Marion’s new Maritime Center. Town Administrator Geoffrey Gorman, State Representative Mark Sylvia, State Senator Kelly Dooner, Executive Office of Economic Development Interim Secretary Ashley Stolba, and Select Board Chair Randy Parker all spoke before the cutting, with Parker handing the big scissors off to the Stolba and Dooner to do the actual grand opening. Marion Natural History Museum 123 viewsOn a beautiful Saturday morning, the Nature Journaling group met with artist Tricia Cassady to learn about some techniques for journaling in nature. We took part in some exercises to loosen up and then had fun finding our own specimens to draw. We also had a chance to discuss our different experiences and have some laughs. The museum may be starting to meet monthly so if you’d like to join us, please email the director at www.marionmuseum.org. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold

Marion Village Christmas Stroll121 viewsThe Marion Village Christmas Stroll was this past cold and snowy Sunday. Santa and Ms. Clause arrived by their usual boat, though the cold and the wind sure made it look difficult to dock. Excited kids hurled snowballs all around (and at each other) as they waited for St. Nick. Photo by Sam Bishop

Marion Natural History Museum120 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum hosted Bethany Boucher of Amazing Animal Ambassadors Monday afternoon. We met Milo the Fennec Fox and had a chance to compare attributes of Peter Quill the hedgehog to Iris the tenrec. We also met a skunk, a ferret, and a very friendly chinchilla. Many thanks to the Marion Cultural Council for partially funding this event. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold
