Marion Natural History Museum 174 viewsOn Friday evening, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted Dr. Kathryn Kavanagh of UMass Dartmouth’s biology department. Speaking on Humpback whales, Dr. Kavanagh covered several stages, including giving birth (tail first), and how male humpbacks shield the mother while she’s giving birth by creating a bubble-net screen. She also mentioned at what point the young are the most vulnerable to entanglement and boat strikes. Many thanks to Dr. Kavanagh for her fascinating talk. Photo courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold
