The sightings included a large “raft” of sleepy Greater Scaup, Canada Geese, American Black Duck, Surf Scoter, Long-tailed Duck, Bufflehead, Common Goldeneye, Hooded Merganser, Red-breasted Merganser, Horned Grebe, Ring-billed Gull, Herring Gull, Common Loon, American Crow, American Robin, House Finch, Song Sparrow and Northern Cardinal. We took a close look at tadpoles and salamanders undergoing metamorphosis, spotted turtles fighting with each other, a water snake, silversides and shrimp and much more. Many thanks to Marion Recreation Department for turning on the water at Washburn and to Adam Miller and Zack Ciesielski of the Marion Harbormaster's office for their help collecting plankton samples.
