Marion Art Center237 viewsThe Marion Art Center held its annual Art in Bloom exhibition June 22-24 featuring floral arrangements inspired by the paintings of Stephen and Anne (Carrozza) Remick. Fifteen pieces coupled with art hanging on the gallery walls gave life to the spaces and included traditional flower-arranging techniques and imaginative fairy landscapes of tiny mosses. Despite the sweltering temperatures, we managed to see the following: 2 Monarchs, Eastern Tiger Swallowtail, Spicebush Swallowtail, 7 Sachems, a Zabulon Skipper, a Viceroy, 3 Clouded Sulphurs, Orange Sulphur, Pearl Crescent and Cabbage White butterflies. Crocodile River Music236 viewsOn Saturday, May 17, as part of Art Week, the Marion Arts Center presented Crocodile River Music performing West African music and dance in Marion's Music Hall to an audience of about 70 people. A few children danced happily along with members of Crocodile River Music during several pieces. For the final piece of the event, almost everyone was up and dancing. The energy was terrific. Halloween Parade235 viewsThe streets of Marion were flooded with Halloween Parade participants and attendees, as members of the Sippican Elementary School Band helped the “witches” of the Marion Art Center lead a procession that began at the Music Hall and went down Front Street, up Main Street past the Elizabeth Taber statue and onto Spring Street, where children were met at Town House by staff members handing out candy for the kids. An advent wreath is a circle of greenery, marked by four candles that represent the four Sundays of the season of Advent. An additional candle is lit as each new Sunday is celebrated in Advent.
