Halloween Parade245 viewsThe streets of Marion were flooded with Halloween Parade participants and attendees, as members of the Sippican Elementary School Band helped the “witches” of the Marion Art Center lead a procession that began at the Music Hall and went down Front Street, up Main Street past the Elizabeth Taber statue and onto Spring Street, where children were met at Town House by staff members handing out candy for the kids. 245 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church245 viewsThe youth group at Saint Gabriel’s Episcopal Church Marion hosted a party after church last Sunday. It was The Souper Bowl of Caring. They decorated for the tailgate party, cooked delicious food to share, nachos, sliders, sloppy Joes and much more. Marion Natural History Museum245 viewsThe Marion Natural Museum after-school group had two great days exploring and mapping Ram Island with our hosts Michael and Hannah Moore. Our gracious hosts allowed us to explore the island beaches, streams, saltmarshes, open-water areas and Osprey nests. Some of the students who attend our programs had not been in a boat or explored an island before. The museum is so very thankful to the Moores for allowing us to explore and map the island. Marion Natural History Museum245 viewsDespite having to reschedule the trip due to poor weather, October 3 was a perfect day to explore. We learned a little about the history of the structures that were built and destroyed during different winter storms and the Hurricane of 1938 which wiped out everything but the lighthouse. We heard that the lighthouse was built in 1819, and the original lighthouse keeper was William S. Moore.

Town of Marion Memorial Day245 viewsArmy veteran Charles Brown was the keynote speaker as the Town of Marion held its Memorial Day remembrance ceremonies on Monday morning with a procession from the Music Hall up Front Street to Old Landing, where Air Force Technical Sergeant Mandy Givens served as master of ceremonies that included an invocation by the Reverend Eric Osterday, the reading of “The Gettysburg Address” by Old Rochester Regional High School sophomore Amanda Tomasso of Mattapoisett, the reading of “In Flanders Fields”

Arts in the Park244 viewsThe Marion Art Center’s annual “Arts in the Park” event was greeted by a gorgeous weekend, as cars lined Marion’s streets and visitors strolled through Bicentennial Park, ducking into the shade of white tents to visit the many artisans and their goods.
