Talking Turtle550 viewsPictures of Marion Natural History Museum's Sea Turtle program with Karen Dourdeville. We also examined the museum's preserved Hawksbill turtle, and the kids got their very own life sized turtle "egg" made of dough to make into their own baby turtle. Marion Natural History Museum550 viewsDespite the impending Polar Vortex, a small hardy group learned to identify some our local trees and shrubs in winter. Have you ever smelled a black cherry? (Yuck!) Or a yellow birch? (Yum!) We learned about opposite and alternate leaf arrangement on a branch, what lenticels look like on a birch and a hickory, and that you can make tea out of sassafras. Thank you to Sarah Porter for the great program. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidhold
