Textile artist Paula Stebbins Becker believes that the works connect memories to visual works equally in complexity to the human mind. Pumpkin Palooza169 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Marion’s Christmas Stroll 169 viewsThe Town of Marion’s annual Christmas Stroll held on December 11 featured rides with Santa and Mrs. Claus on horse-drawn carriages, live entertainment from the Sippican Elementary School musicians, Christmas songs performed by Tabor Academy students, children’s activities and many refreshments offered along the sidewalks by village merchants. Summer Reading Program169 viewsAs a kickoff to the summer reading program at the Elizabeth Taber Library and summer Natural History Museum programming, the Town of Marion was treated to a visit from a full-size whale, two very large dinosaurs and one baby dino named Spike. The Summer Block Party event held on June 24 started inside the Music Hall due to weather but later moved outside. The event also featured faux archeology digs and face painting. Blessing of the Fleet169 viewsThe Reverend Eric Fialho, rector at Saint Gabriel’s Parish, presided as the Town of Marion held its first-ever Blessing of the Fleet on January 1 in Sippican Harbor. One tradition well established the past half-dozen years was the sunflower in the outer harbor, where several vessels tied up to one another at the stern and aimed their bows outward toward the sea in 360-degree formation. Marion Village Christmas Stroll169 viewsDespite eventual rain, the Marion Village Christmas Stroll was enjoyed by many on Sunday afternoon. The event included musical entertainment by Tri-County musicians, Grades 4 and 5 bands from Sippican Elementary School, Sippican Historical Society carolers and Tabor Academy students, horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainment, seasonal refreshments courtesy of area merchants, goodie bags from VASE, and crafts for kids.
