Marion Natural History Museum331 viewsOn October 12, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted Chris Reddy, senior scientist at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, who specializes in marine pollution and petroleum geochemistry. Reddy became interested in plastics in 2008 when he worked with Dr. Kara Lavender Law at Sea Education Association to study the distribution and chemical composition of plastic in the North Atlantic Ocean. The students had a chance to take a close look at some of the artifacts he's found in his backyard and were shown how to use a metal detector to help find some of these items.

Pumpkin Palooza331 viewsSaturday’s Pumpkin Palooza hosted by the Marion Council of Aging and the Recreation Department at the Cushing Community Center. Families decorated pumpkins, and children enjoyed face painting, a hula-hoop contest, dancing, a visit from Pine Meadow Farm animals and refreshments supported by Tabor Academy volunteers. Pumpkins were later illuminated, giving the pavilion an eerie weekend presence. Sixty-five families preregistered to participate in the event inspired by Marion citizen Dianne Cosman

Marion Natural History Museum331 viewsOn December 21, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group had a wonderful time working with crafts from natural and recycled materials during our annual holiday party. Our group had a blast making ornaments (and eating junk food) during the event, and everyone brought home an ornament or two to share with the family.
