Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, spoke to Marion citizens gathered at Old Landing for Veterans Day observances on November 11. Also speaking were Select Board Chair Norm Hills, Town Administrator Jay McGrail, and the Reverend Eric E. Fialho, rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. Supporting with their participation were Marion Cub Scouts and the Sippican Elementary School Band under the direction of Hannah Moore.

Betty Parsons171 viewsAt the Marion Art Center on display through October 28 is a retrospective of works done by gallerist and artist Betty Parsons. From as early as the 1930s through to 1980, Parsons received growing acclaim for her ability and wisdom in selecting art done by emerging artists, primarily those expressed via abstract visual interpretations. Parsons was also an artist, described as both a painter and a sculptor for her work in watercolor and acrylic, but also a sculptor for her found items and driftwood creations.

Marion Natural History Museum171 viewsOn November 30, the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group had a chance to learn about the different types of trees in our area and to look at some equipment used by foresters to help protect our trees. By looking at a tree "cookie," we were able to count the rings to determine its age and learn about the services, the different sections, including the heart wood, sap wood and bark or phloem provides the tree.
