Marion Natural History Museum337 viewsDespite having to reschedule the trip due to poor weather, October 3 was a perfect day to explore. We learned a little about the history of the structures that were built and destroyed during different winter storms and the Hurricane of 1938 which wiped out everything but the lighthouse. We heard that the lighthouse was built in 1819, and the original lighthouse keeper was William S. Moore.

We took a look at Green frog tadpoles, Wood frog and salamander egg masses. We also looked at some of our aquatic invertebrates, such as Water boatman, Caddisfly larvae and others that help by breaking down the leaves at the bottom of the pool and starting the forest food chain. Marion Natural History Museum337 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. Clean Up337 viewsAfter a rainy Saturday, the Scouts from Pack 32 and Troop 32 of Marion along with countless volunteers from the community spent the morning on Sunday, April 27 cleaning up multiple areas around town. With the generous support of the Washburn Park Trust, the scouts, their families and countless volunteers started their spring-cleaning donating numerous items to a local charity (Gifts to Give). Crocodile River Music337 viewsOn Saturday, May 17, as part of Art Week, the Marion Arts Center presented Crocodile River Music performing West African music and dance in Marion's Music Hall to an audience of about 70 people. A few children danced happily along with members of Crocodile River Music during several pieces. For the final piece of the event, almost everyone was up and dancing. The energy was terrific.
