Marion Art Center302 viewsLaser wood-cutting techniques used by artist Makerjake, aka Jacob Ginga, combine contemporary themes with those of his native heritage. Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25. Marion Natural History Museum302 viewsOn February 14, the Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group had a great time dissecting owl pellets. The students located skulls, both rodent and avian, and other assorted bones. After identification and close inspection under microscopes, these were then mounted on project boards to bring home. The Marion Natural History museum wishes to thank Tabor Academy volunteers Camden Jeppsin, Eddy Yeon, Noah Divon, Ryan Francis and Sulaiman Al Harthy for their help with this project. Marion Art Center302 viewsThe Marion Art Center spring exhibition features works by Bernie Klim and Joshua Baptista. Klim’s style of rapidly applied, single-layer brushstrokes presents the viewer with a sense of fresh breezes guiding the artist’s hand. Baptista’s drawings invite the viewer into a world slightly off center but thick and dense with emerging stories. Now on view through May 17. Photos by Marilou Newell

Marion Natural History Museum302 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s after-school group had fun with hands-on inspections of some of our local amphibian species. We took a look at Green frog tadpoles, Wood frog and salamander egg masses. We also looked at some of our aquatic invertebrates, such as Water boatman, Caddisfly larvae and others that help by breaking down the leaves at the bottom of the pool and starting the forest food chain.
