The beaver lodge was tested to see if it held water back and still kept the lodge dry inside. It was a huge success! The students heard about the nature of these pools and why these amphibians need this temporary habitat to survive. We took a close-up look at wood-frog egg masses, green-frog tadpoles and Water Boatmen, a fun insect that has legs like oars and can move swiftly across the pool. Despite the blistering hot weather, the rockets were all successfully launched, and the parachutes deployed (most of the time). The students had built their rockets at home before the program with a YouTube video created by the program's presenter, Mike Cronin.

We learned about their life cycle, the plants these animals must have to reproduce and the plants they need to be able to survive their extremely long migration routes. We watched a video Maggie had taken of a monarch butterfly emerging from its chrysalis and expanding its wings to fly.
