Marion Police Self Defense Class199 viewsOn November 6 and 8, women ages 15 and up learned basic, self-defense strategies from Marion Police Officer Captain Carl MacDermott III at the Music Hall. Awareness of one’s surroundings was a prime message, and participants practiced moves under assault. Pink Donuts 199 viewsPink donuts have become a symbol of mental-health awareness and suicide prevention in Marion. On Monday, the town took part in “Pink Donuts for Alec Day” honoring the memory of Alec White by enjoying his favorite donut, pink frosted. Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery199 viewsA rousing, opening-night crowd greeted actors Scott Fishman, Matt Lynds, Allie Goodman, Kate Martin and Elizabeth Rapoza in “Baskerville: A Sherlock Holmes Mystery,” which plays two more weekends at the Marion Art Center’s Anne Braitmayer Webb Theater. Marion Natural History Museum198 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group had a wonderful time learning about “Amazing Arthropods” with entomologist Blake Dinius of Plymouth County Extension Service. Members of the group were able to handle a couple of beautiful Io moths, which as caterpillars feed on maple leaves. Arts in the Park198 viewsSeveral hundred people came out to enjoy the annual Arts in the Park fundraiser hosted by the Marion Art Center on July 10. Forty artists who had been invited by a MAC jury to participate featured their crafts and art objects. The jury ensures the quality of the items on display and also gives up-and-coming artisans a platform to showcase their work. Sippican Elementary Car Wash198 viewsSippican Elementary sixth graders turned Saturday's car wash into a fire engine wash, creating a waterfall of suds and having the kind of fun kids normally associate with what happens on the weekends before school is back in session. Organized by Volunteers at Sippican Elementary (VASE), the school's 501(c)(3) non-profit parent-teacher organization, the event held at the Marion school's bus loop off Main Street raised money for the students' mountain classroom trip, a three-day excursion planned for June 20

Good News198 viewsOn October 14, Jeff and Lauren Paine of Pine Meadow Farms in Mattapoisett brought Alpacas “Good News,” a two-year-old male, and “Patience,” a 10-year-old female, to the Loft School in Marion, where Debbi Dyson's Pre-K class has been learning about Peru and the country’s alpacas and llamas.
