Marion Natural History Museum274 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum after-school group had a chance to take a closeup look at some of the amphibians and invertebrates that require these special habitats to survive. We found a leaf-rolling caddisfly larvae, several colorful chronomidge larvae, salamander and wood-frog eggs. All specimens made their way safely back to their specific pool, and the kids have learned to have a new respect for these “nurseries” of the forest. The event was sponsored by the Marion Recreation Department in partnership with Marion’s Police, Fire and DPW departments. Llama Visit274 viewsLauren and Jeff Paine from Pine Meadow Farm in Mattapoisett brought Chocolate and Patience to visit the children at the Loft School on October 20. The Pre-K class has been learning about Peru this month. The children had a chance to ask questions, see what Alpacas eat, feel their shorn fur and pet their new friends. Our group had a blast making ornaments (and eating junk food) during the event, and everyone brought home an ornament or two to share with the family.

Blessing of the Fleet274 viewsThe Reverend Eric Fialho, rector at Saint Gabriel’s Parish, presided as the Town of Marion held its first-ever Blessing of the Fleet on January 1 in Sippican Harbor. One tradition well established the past half-dozen years was the sunflower in the outer harbor, where several vessels tied up to one another at the stern and aimed their bows outward toward the sea in 360-degree formation. Ghosts! Explaining the Paranormal274 viewsOver 50 people were in attendance for the first night of a six-week series called "Ghosts! Explaining the Paranormal." This course on the paranormal is being hosted by Saint Gabriel's Episcopal Church. Father Eric Fialho, the rector of the parish, has developed a course which explores what the wider church believes about the topic of ghosts. Participants were treated to a lecture with periods of questions and answers. Registration for the course has ended. Father Fialho had this to say, "I am not surprised

Fire Department Open House274 viewsOn October 10 and 11, Marion and Mattapoisett Fire Departments held open houses featuring plenty of fun for children of all ages. The occasion was the National Fire Prevention Week.
Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association has been helping local fire departments with educational materials related to fire safety.
