Marion Natural History Museum200 viewsOn February 9, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted a presentation on Native American sites in and around Marion. Principal Investigator Erin Flynn from Public Archaeology Labs, Inc. (PAL) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, gave an excellent presentation including many locally found artifacts in the museum's collection and others. We took a look at Green frog tadpoles, Wood frog and salamander egg masses. We also looked at some of our aquatic invertebrates, such as Water boatman, Caddisfly larvae and others that help by breaking down the leaves at the bottom of the pool and starting the forest food chain. Fire Department Open House200 viewsOn October 10 and 11, Marion and Mattapoisett Fire Departments held open houses featuring plenty of fun for children of all ages. The occasion was the National Fire Prevention Week.
Since 1922, the National Fire Protection Association has been helping local fire departments with educational materials related to fire safety.

Marion Veterans Day 200 viewsThe Town of Marion held Veterans Day ceremonies at Old Landing, where Marion resident and retired Navy Captain William J. Hollman gave the keynote address. Presiding was the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425 Color Guard. The community also heard from Old Rochester Regional High School freshman James Devoll, who read the Governor's Proclamation, along with Town Administrator Geoff Gorman, Select Board Chairman Norm Hills, Reverend Eric W. Osterday, and the Sippican Elementary School band

Marion Boy Scout Troop 32199 viewsMarion Boy Scout Troop 32 earned a second-place finish at the Klondike Derby on March 13 at Camp Cachalot in the Myles Standish State Forest. During the event, scout patrols went from station to station with a traditional Klondike sled (called a sledge) to test their skills and leadership ability in the outdoor winter environment. Marion 4th of July Parade199 viewsMarion Town Administrator Jay McGrail and Select Board members Norm Hills, John Waterman, and Randy Parker walked the Independence Day parade route on Monday morning along with veterans, marching bands, Boy and Girl Scout troops, youth baseball teams, decorated floats, fire engines, and a convoy of antique cars. Beginning at the Town House, the parade route went up Spring Street, then east on Route 6 before going right onto Front Street all the way down to Main Street and back up to Spring. Photos by Ryan F
