Marion Village Christmas Stroll246 viewsDespite eventual rain, the Marion Village Christmas Stroll was enjoyed by many on Sunday afternoon. The event included musical entertainment by Tri-County musicians, Grades 4 and 5 bands from Sippican Elementary School, Sippican Historical Society carolers and Tabor Academy students, horse-drawn carriage rides, street entertainment, seasonal refreshments courtesy of area merchants, goodie bags from VASE, and crafts for kids. Davin Alves246 viewsDavin Alves of Marion, an 11-year-old, Sippican Elementary School student, set a high bar for himself last year in raising over $900 for food donations he made to the United Way of New Bedford. This year, Davin wanted to do more. He held raffles, raising $3,470 in donations that he used to buy and donate food, adding two more outlets, the Marion Food Bank at the Cushman Community Center and Damien’s Food Pantry in neighboring Wareham.

Marion Natural History Museum246 viewsOn February 9, the Marion Natural History Museum hosted a presentation on Native American sites in and around Marion. Principal Investigator Erin Flynn from Public Archaeology Labs, Inc. (PAL) in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, gave an excellent presentation including many locally found artifacts in the museum's collection and others. Marion Natural History Museum246 viewsOn February 28, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group enjoyed hearing about the efforts being made to protect the endangered Diamondback terrapin. Debra Ewing showed photos of the "Terrapin Garden" she helped to create in her neighborhood in Marion. The students had many interesting questions about this species, which were answered by Debra and two volunteers from New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA). The students then broke into groups, exploring the artifacts they had brought in

Presiding was the Benjamin D. Cushing VFW Post 2425 Color Guard. The community also heard from Old Rochester Regional High School freshman James Devoll, who read the Governor's Proclamation, along with Town Administrator Geoff Gorman, Select Board Chairman Norm Hills, Reverend Eric W. Osterday, and the Sippican Elementary School band
