Marion Art Center296 viewsLaser wood-cutting techniques used by artist Makerjake, aka Jacob Ginga, combine contemporary themes with those of his native heritage. Together with Narragansett tribal member Max Brown-Garcia, who has supplied Native American regalia pieces, and Vincent Mancini's creations from cut feathers, these sacred works are part of the Marion Art Center’s indigenous art exhibit, “Exploring Native American Culture: Art, Craft and Inspiration,” through March 25. Marion Natural History Museum296 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group had a terrific time constructing their own rockets for launching. This program was so popular it had to be offered twice! The kids had a hands-on introduction to the engineering principles of propulsion and lift. Every rocket managed a successful launch hundreds of feet in the air, and most were safely carried down by the parachutes. The Museum wishes to thank volunteers Mike Cronin and his son Jake for the great program. Photos courtesy Elizabeth Leidho

Marion Natural History Museum296 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had a chance to explore and map Ram Island with Dr. Michael Moore and Mrs. Hannah Moore this week. We investigated salt marshes and mapped osprey nests, found some horseshoe crabs and met some donkeys, chickens and friendly dogs on both our Wednesday and Thursday trips. We wish to thank the Moore's for sharing their beautiful island with our group. Please visit our website to view our upcoming summer programs at www.marionmuseum.org. Photo courtesy Eliza
