Marion 4th of July Parade400 viewsMarion Town Administrator Jay McGrail and Select Board members Norm Hills, John Waterman, and Randy Parker walked the Independence Day parade route on Monday morning along with veterans, marching bands, Boy and Girl Scout troops, youth baseball teams, decorated floats, fire engines, and a convoy of antique cars. Marion Natural History Museum400 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum’s after-school group had fun with hands-on inspections of some of our local amphibian species. We took a look at Green frog tadpoles, Wood frog and salamander egg masses. We also looked at some of our aquatic invertebrates, such as Water boatman, Caddisfly larvae and others that help by breaking down the leaves at the bottom of the pool and starting the forest food chain. Nolan Fest399 viewsThe first-ever Nolan Fest was held on July 11 at Silvershell Beach in Marion to honor the late Nolan Gibbons, who tragically passed away on August 18, 2020. The festival featured live music and words presented by area and national contributors, along with video tributes and a fire show. Wylie Chair of Maritime Strategy at the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, spoke to Marion citizens gathered at Old Landing for Veterans Day observances on November 11. Also speaking were Select Board Chair Norm Hills, Town Administrator Jay McGrail, and the Reverend Eric E. Fialho, rector of St. Gabriel’s Episcopal Church. Supporting with their participation were Marion Cub Scouts and the Sippican Elementary School Band under the direction of Hannah Moore.

Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day398 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. There were plenty of Department of Public Works, police, and fire personnel on hand to demonstrate how the vehicles work, to turn on lights and alarms, and answer questions. Photo by Jean Perry

Marion Natural History Museum398 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum afterschool group had a wonderful time learning about “Amazing Arthropods” with entomologist Blake Dinius of Plymouth County Extension Service. Members of the group were able to handle a couple of beautiful Io moths, which as caterpillars feed on maple leaves. We took a close look at barrier beaches, vernal pools, salt marshes, and tide pools.
