Marion Natural History Museum281 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's afterschool group had fun last week learning why deer and moose grow antlers, when and why they lose them, and where to look for the shed antlers. We talked about horns versus antlers and inspected some of the museum specimens of each. We then split into groups and hid pretend "antlers" outside and had a blast hiding them on each other and trying to locate them in the fallen leaves. Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day280 viewsLittle kids and big, big machines on a warm spring Marion morning made for tons of fun at the Marion Recreation’s Second Annual Kid’s Equipment Day on May 10. A row of different Town-owned vehicles including a police cruiser, ambulance, earth diggers, a fire engine, and fire trucks lined the Town House field. Running with Hannah280 viewsHannah Strom ran from Island Wharf down Front Street to Silvershell Beach on Sunday morning, surrounded by her brother and friends. The accomplishment is a major step in the Marion native’s long road back from severe injuries sustained last January in a horrific crash while traveling in Florida with the Holy Cross rowing team. At the end of her run, her father surprised her with a puppy. The Tabor Academy graduate plans to go back to the Worcester-based college and rejoin the rowing program.

Chief Garcia Retires280 viewsAt 2:06 pm on Friday, December 11, Marion Chief of Police John Garcia signed off to radio dispatch, ending his shift and a law enforcement career that spanned three and a half decades. Coastal Sweep279 viewsLed by Marion resident Peter McDonald, environmentally-minded locals and Tabor students descended upon Marions Silvershell Beach and Planting Island, Mattapoisett Town Beach and Warehams Onset Beach to pick up trash and debris on the morning of September 17, 2011. The residents cleaned the beaches in solidarity with 400,000 individuals in 120 countries, all who participated in a global beach cleanup orchestrated by the Ocean Conservancy.
