Marion Natural History Museum328 viewsThe Marion Natural History Museum's Coastal Explorations summer nature program had a wonderful time last week exploring a diverse selection of natural areas. We investigated marshes, bogs, vernal pools, and upland forest habitats and the plants and animals that call these areas home. The museum would like to thank the Marion Harbormaster's office for allowing us access to Bird Island to take a look at some of our more rare and endangered birds and their nesting habitat. Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 327 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. VASE member Diana Martin organized the event, with the support of about 12 volunteers who assisted that morning in making sure the two races went off without a hitch. Photo by Felix Perez

Marion Memorial Day327 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. Soapbox Derby327 viewsMarion and Rochester Cub Scouts came together on November 6 for a soapbox derby on Holmes Street in Marion. The longtime fundraising event was not held in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic but made a roaring return on Saturday, as children raced their homemade go-carts and collected donations for the Murphy and Others, Living Interdependently for Future Endeavors, Inc. Marion Natural History Museum327 viewsOn June 8, the Marion Natural History Museum’s afterschool group enjoyed a wonderful trip to Ram Island in Marion. The students watched various crabs in the salt marsh, visited several of the occupied Osprey nests and walked the shoreline looking for shells. We also had the opportunity to visit Clara and Darcy, the Moore’s pet donkeys.
