Kids Equipment Fun Day445 viewsSaturday, May 7, was the date for the annual Kids Equipment Fun Day at Washburn Park in Marion, sponsored by Marion Recreation. The kids climbed aboard ambulances, fire trucks, police cruisers, and even the harbormaster’s boat. This year, Recreation Director and Selectman Jody Dickerson served up free hotdogs during the popular event that seemed to draw a bigger crowd this year than the previous years. Photos by Ethan Akins

Marion Memorial Day445 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. At the Town Hall, the names of the fallen soldiers were read aloud and the Rochester Memorial School Band played patriotic songs before heading out for the parade. Photos by Colin Veitch

Marion Village 5K445 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50. At Silvershell Beach in Marion, the Marion Recreation Department provided an array of food, fun, and games for beachgoers, and in Mattapoisett, kids enjoyed face painting, sack races, and, of course, plenty of sun. SSV Tabor Boy445 viewsOn Wednesday, October 19, Tabor Academy's Class of 2017 was gracious enough to give Marion Cub Scouts Pack 32 Class of 2028 a tour of the SSV Tabor Boy. This was an amazing opportunity for the boys to learn about this 102-year-old vessel as well as water safety and gain some knowledge about sailing.
