The pouring rain didn’t stop Santa from spreading candy and holiday cheer to the crowd of exciting children. Annual Tree Sale407 viewsA Decorating Committee from the Sippican Woman’s Club produced over 50 festive trees for the Tree Spree, which started in Handy’s Tavern. The tavern was decked out with themed trees, including a Barbie tree, a Hannukah tree, a Mallard duck tree, and even a tree decorated with recycled items like bottles and plastic bags. Summer Repose407 views“Summer Repose” by Jeff Fioravanti will be exhibited with eight other pastel artists at the Marion Art Center located at 80 Pleasant Street from Friday, April 29 to June 8, 2011. An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 29 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Cecil Clark Davis Gallery.

The Tabor Academy history teacher shared his experiences in Vietnam with a small group of Marion residents last week at the Elizabeth Taber Library, bringing with him a seeming fortune in Vietnamese Dong, a treasure trove of handicrafts, and hundreds of photos, some of which he presented with a little academic insight and plenty of comical commentary.

Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run 407 views Sunday, May 4 was a perfect day for a fun run through Marion, and about 200 people turned out to participate in VASE’s second annual Sippican Schooner 5k and Mini Fun Run to raise money for educational programs at Sippican Elementary School. VASE member Diana Martin organized the event, with the support of about 12 volunteers who assisted that morning in making sure the two races went off without a hitch. Photo by Felix Perez
