Marion Natural History Museum422 viewsDr. Michael Moore of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, using the museum's harpoon and baleen, introduced the Marion Natural History Museum's after-school group to a little of Marion's whaling history. Students could ask questions and theorize why Sippican Harbor had the first recorded visit from a humpback whale this fall. We wish to thank Dr. Moore for the great program. Turtle Care422 viewsSome of the residents of Jenney Lane at The Cove in Marion have found a new passion in rescuing diamond-backed terrapin eggs and safely releasing the hatchlings into the wild. A private neighborhood group, along with “Turtle Guy” Don Lewis and wife Sue Weiber Nourse, created a terrapin habitat restoration project knows as the turtle garden at The Cove. The project has seen success this year with an increase in new terrapin nests over last year. Photos by Jean Perry

Living History 422 viewsIt looked like July 8, 1776 at Silvershell Beach in Marion this past Saturday. Folks from the Fairhaven Village Militia and Wareham Militia Group in conjunction with Marion Recreation and the Marion Cultural Council took spectators back in time to Colonial Massachusetts during a weekend-long encampment at the beach. Participants in olde-tyme apparel demonstrated what life was like in the 1770s during the Revolutionary War through demonstrations of drilling, cooking, and flintlock musket use. Photos by Jean
