Antique Car Show425 views It was a great turnout for the Agawam’s 3rd Annual Antique Car Show at Washburn Park in Marion on Saturday, August 29. Classic car entrants signed their antique automobiles up for a chance to win first, second, or third place in the show. The sponsoring group, Agawam Chapter No. 121 Order of the Eastern Star, uses the proceeds from the event to benefit various charities the group supports. Marion Natural History Museum425 viewsOn Wednesday, the Marion Natural History Museum's after school group learned how to identify some of our more common species of birds for the Great Backyard Bird Count. Using telescopes and binoculars the students made, we took a walk to find evidence of birds and other wildlife in the park next door. By participating in the GBBC, the group will be contributing to important citizen science efforts coordinated by the National Audubon Society and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. The art of henna dates back thousands of years and has recently grown in popularity. Kids Equipment Fun Day425 viewsSaturday, May 7, was the date for the annual Kids Equipment Fun Day at Washburn Park in Marion, sponsored by Marion Recreation. The kids climbed aboard ambulances, fire trucks, police cruisers, and even the harbormaster’s boat. This year, Recreation Director and Selectman Jody Dickerson served up free hotdogs during the popular event that seemed to draw a bigger crowd this year than the previous years. Photos by Ethan Akins

Marion Memorial Day425 viewsRochester fared far better with its Memorial Day celebration than Marion and Mattapoisett did with theirs on rainy Monday. Sunday, May 29, was a picture perfect day for a parade. Art In Bloom425 viewsThe Marion Art Center presented Art In Bloom on June 3 with a showing of paintings by artists Susan Strauss of Westport and Alison Horvitz of Somerset. In collaboration with the Marion Garden Group, paintings were staged with floral arrangements to provide viewers with a unique art installation. The paintings will be on view for the next month. Marion Village 5K425 viewsThe number of participants in this year’s Marion Village 5K might have been down slightly according to race organizers, but the sentiment of fun and competition certainly was not on Saturday, June 25. Taking first place for men was Andrew Sukeforth of Middleboro with a time of 15:43, and Meg Hughes of Rochester won first place in the women’s division with a time of 19:50.
